How Can I Become a Member of the Family of God?

 Acts 2:37-38 When the people heard, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Repentance is total revolution, a radical change of mind, which results in a change of direction. It is not only a negative turning from wrong  attitudes and actions, it is also a positive turning to God and His way of thinking and living.

Belief involves a clear commitment to the will of the Father and the person of Jesus. It involves intellectual assent, but goes much further. It is gospel obedience; it is total surrender to the rule of God; it is a dedication to lifelong discipleship.

What should I believe?

1. Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of a virgin. Luke 1:26-32 – … God sent the angel Gabriel to a virgin pledged to a man named Joseph…The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you….Do not be afraid, Mary…you will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.

2. Believe that Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross and rose again to pay the price for our sins and reconcile us to God the Father. 2 Corinthians 5:21 – God made him who had no sin to be sin for us,  so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.Mark 15:25 – It was the third hour when they  crucified him.  Luke 23:46 – Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. “When he had said this, he breathed his last. 1 Corinthians 15:3-6 – For what I received I passed on to you  as of first  importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.  After that, he appeared to more than five  hundred of the brothers at the same time,…

3. Believe that you are a sinner in need of the savior…Jesus. Romans 3:23 – for ALL have sinned and fall short of  the glory of God, (emphasis added) Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I believe. What do I do now? In order to receive salvation, each individual soul must make a direct, personal response to Jesus. You can do this by praying this prayer: Lord Jesus, I believe that you died for my sins; that You were buried; that You rose again on the third day. I now repent of my sins and come to You for mercy and forgiveness. By faith in Your promises, I receive You personally as my Savior and confess You as my Lord. Come into my heart, give me     eternal life and make me a child of God. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
